The second review of Queensland’s first Local Law to regulate Short Term Letting, underway since March this year, is progressing.

The team advise they will be reaching out to the remaining interested stakeholders in the next ten days. The third quarterly update is due on schedule in October also.

More details below.

Short Stay Local Law Operational Review

The primary purpose of this review is to evaluate the operation of the local law to determine if any changes are required, or opportunities are available, to increase the operational effectiveness of the Local law.

This review is being undertaken to address any risks or opportunities that have surfaced since the law’s implementation and following the 12-month review which was completed in February 2023. The review will analyse how well the local law has been functioning in its primary goal to manage the balance between the rights of property owners engaging in short stay letting and the rights of permanent residents to a peaceful, stable living environment. A particular focus will be placed on ensuring that the regulatory and compliance framework and guest behaviour code of conduct are effective in maintaining residential amenity and minimising disturbances caused by the operation of short-term rentals.

– Identify ways to improve education and awareness, such as the “Good Management Guide.”

– Examine renewal fees and category definitions.
