Environment: Evidence-based action to protect our magnificent beaches, river, lakes, bushlands and open spaces have been a hallmark of Noosa Council and dedicated environment and community groups for decades and have my full support. These projects ensure our natural assets can be enjoyed by everyone for generations to come.

Projects such as dunal planting and rehabilitation, the river’s oyster reef restoration like that is happening all around Australia, and the conversion of 2400 hectares of state land in the Yurol Ringtail Forest to conservation estate, the “Keep it in Kin Kin” river catchment erosion prevention program deliver a great legacy for all of us.

Ensuring the Noosa River is a safe, uncluttered and healthy waterway that can be enjoyed by all as a recreational and natural asset, through effective, long-term action on unlimited anchoring and mooring, abandoned vessels, stopping sewage pump-outs and projects that reduce litter and sedimentation and improve water quality and marine ecosystems.

See how the oyster reef project has engaged and inspired Noosa’s young people, like Jolie in this film that received nationwide coverage.

There are no plans to “lock up” the river or to ban boating and fishing as some have falsely stated or feared.

The planned consultation on the pros and cons of introducing a conservation park overlay to the existing Fish Habitat Areas on the river margins (Marina to Gympie Terrace/Weyba Road section excluded) and the Noosa River Plan has been delayed till after the election.

The ultimate goal is a cleaner, safer, less cluttered river, teeming with more fish and marine life, that can be accessed and enjoyed by all.

A conservation park is being considered as a means to give Noosa Council a seat at the table during river management discussions with State Agencies like MSQ and DAF.

Delegated authority could help Noosa Council ensure State Agencies retain the focus and ability to consistently deliver what everybody wants, that is to regulate on water activities like abandoned vessels, long-term anchoring, mooring, pumping out of sewage into the river, speeding, etc. Finally!!!

The State Agencies would remain the prime authorities on river matters.

The Bush Care groups that rehabilitate the natural areas across our shire, the volunteers that care for our river must continue to receive our full support.

After many years in the making, the Eastern Beaches Foreshore Reserves Management Plan actions will be implemented this term. This includes better signage regarding dogs, dunal protection, public education, conservation messaging, beach accesses, viewing platforms and public seating.
